So everyone is buying the Nines seeking their redemption theory? Reality hits the humans. They gotta work for food and fresh water. All I could think of when Kokoro’s pregnancy was revealed to everyone was the “how is prangent formed” video. It was strange to hear FakeNana discussion pregnancy as if it were a disease and suggest abortion as a “treatment” for me. It kind of shows how taboo reproduction was in their world. But come on Mitsuru a good daddy will not abort his child. Seriously, can we appreciate how despite suffering significant physiological trauma, the REAL Nana is still trying her best?

But, this episode made me dislike Hiro’s current character even more. Let me explain. Ever since episode 15, Hiro and Zero Two suffer from Shipping Bed Death. And what the writers should’ve done is making the two of em focus on interacting with other characters (since they barely have anything to do with each other, their love arc is now resolved. It’s not called Shipping Bed Death for nothing) like Hiro and Zero Two telling the squad about their escape from garden as young children (and explaining their mutual affection to their friends).

Hell, they could become a shiplord (Granted, Hiro kinda helped Mitsuru lose his virginity)… But nope, what we got is diabetic (not in a good way) sometimes cheesy interactions, like Hiro always talking/thinking about Zero Two in every damn scene he’s in (and for me… he kinda ignored his friends existence.) That’s kind of what happens when people get into relationships. They become less extroverted and social and kind of become obsessed with each other. Ignore their friends. Only think about each other. That’s textbook “new exciting relationship” behavior.

And come episode 22. All he thinks about is Zero two. And Hiro’s reason to go to space is because “muh love” and “muh promise”. That’s pretty weak. He should’ve said something akin to “She saved me once, and now, she’s doing that again… No. She’s saving the whole humanity, all by herself. I won’t let her shoulder that burden alone.” Which is exactly the point of love, pure, senseless, indescribable. I think they hit it amazingly, if anything Goro giving him shit was an incredible drama scene because it brings up the ever uncomfortable topic of choosing between loved ones.

I’d have to say this episode is definitely one of my favorites of the series. I’m just worried about how they’re going to fit so much into the last 2 episodes, since there’s so many different stories going on. Here’s to an ending that won’t result in everybody dying!
